Summary
Your recordings, transcripts, summaries, knowledge base and voiceprints stay on this Mac. They are never uploaded.
The network is used for the four purposes below, and only the account and device identifiers required for those purposes are ever sent — never content.
Network use
| Purpose | Trigger | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Authorization service | Activating or renewing a license (every 30 days); binding a device for the first time; refreshing a device signature | Machine ID, license and seat, device serial and model, contact email |
| Direct device signature | Optional; only after you sign in to your own Plaud account | Your own Plaud account credentials, device serial |
| Public model download | First run, or when a model is missing (skippable; you may supply the files yourself) | The download request itself |
| Update check | In-app updates | Version number |
None of these ever send recordings, transcripts, summaries, the knowledge base or voiceprints. The in-app Network Activity panel lists every outbound request made by this Mac — host and category only; no paths, tokens or serial numbers.
Stored on this Mac
Audio, transcripts, summaries, knowledge base, semantic index and voiceprint models are stored locally (~/Library/Application Support/Mnemo/) and are never uploaded. Device credentials and account tokens are kept in the macOS Keychain. Local data files are currently not encrypted at the application layer; their confidentiality relies on FileVault.
Stored on the server
Only the minimum required for licensing and device ownership: license and machine seat, device serial and model, your contact email, and the purchase record (a digest and an encrypted copy of the license key, used for redemption and recovery). When authorization fails, the service log records the failure class, stage, license ID, seat ID, device serial and model (for example, “the device rejected the credential we issued”) and keeps it for no more than 7 days. The server stores no user content and no RSA private keys.
Contact email
An email address is required to start the trial or activate a license. It is used for receipts, support and security notices only — never for product updates or marketing. It is not an account: there is no password, no sign-in, and it plays no part in authentication. It is kept for as long as the license record exists; you may ask us to correct or delete it at any time, and we do so within 30 days.
What we never do
- No advertising trackers, no third-party analytics SDKs, no selling or sharing of your data;
- We never upload or analyze your audio or text;
- Voiceprints are off by default, destroyed on withdrawal, never exported, and never used to identify you.
Your controls
- Do not sign in to Plaud → device signatures are handled by the Mnemo service, and you never hand over your account;
- Sign out of Plaud → the stored account token is deleted immediately;
- Optionally delete the original audio once processing finishes;
- Reading, search, playback and export work fully offline. Once the trial ends without a license, device sync and new transcription, summaries and knowledge curation pause; what is already on the Mac is unaffected.
